Thoughts on Riker/Troi and Kirk/Spock
Okay, I just want to try a little experiment here.
Picture the scene. A charming, attractive human is very close to a dark-haired, dark eyed half-alien (one human parent and one parent from a telepathic race). They serve together on a ship called the Enterprise, where the half-alien's mental powers often help save the day. The alien is heir to an important family, and while they love their non-human parent, they don't always get along with them. In addition, the human and the alien have a special word to describe their relationship that they only use with each other.
Now, am I describing TNG or TOS?
(I also found this, which I think makes my point.)

and be in the 80's was tough so Gene has to find his way!
But Riker has serious problems in accepting that he really can't love non other, Deanna alway knew it.

I figured someone had already made that connection, but I thought I'd mention it anyway. :) Guess I've figured out why I ship Riker/Troi...

I have to admit, when I started writing this up I was surprised how many similarities there actually are between them.
