Well, my first thought for TOS K/S fluff is always Farfalla (http://www.ksarchive.com/viewuser.php?uid=16) - her fics aren't very long, but there's a lot of them and they're generally sweet and fluffy. I also like Dana Austin Marsh (http://www.ksarchive.com/viewuser.php?uid=210) for longer, humour-based fic - I especially recommend "Rumour Has It". Oh, and Lady Ra (http://visionsofprettyboys.com/StarTrek/StarTrekTOS.htm) - "Through the Looking Glass" is one of my favourite fics ever.

That should get you started at least. :) (And, uh, if you feel like reading any more of my stuff just click on the "fandom: star trek tos" tag. It's all there.)

I must see if I can hold of the novelisation too - was wondering just the other day about where t'hy'la came from.

It's really worth it if you can find it - I got mine off Amazon. The TMP novelisation was actually written by Roddenberry so it's generally seen as more "canon" than the rest of the tie-in books*, although Roddenberry himself didn't consider it canon. And it's full of slashy subtext - I've heard that there were quite a few people who had never even considered that Kirk and Spock might be lovers until the book put the idea into their heads. There's a good meta post about it here (http://bigmamag.livejournal.com/304785.html), if you want to know more.

* Word of God is that none of the tie-in books are canon, so feel free to ignore anyone who says that X is true or Y is false based on something they read in a book.

I'll probably be dipping in and out as I watch the Olympics at the same time

Oh, the Olympics is awesome, isn't it? I'm assuming from your profile that you're a fellow Brit? It's fun how excited and kind of... baffled everyone gets when we actually win things. XD
